Bills capture the 2010 Silver Cup

The 40^th. annual Silver Cup Classic was played in front of a capacity crowd on October 7th. This annual grid iron classic was started by the former Senior Residence Supervisor Mr. Willem Huner. This year’s championship game featured the Bills who were coached by Mr. Russell and Mr. Swerdfigger taking on the defending Champions the Argos who were coached by Ms. Ottewell and Mr. Breuls.

Game Re-cap

Anthony B’s 35 yard catch with 2 seconds left in the game, set up the winning field goal by Kevin R to lead the Bills to an exciting 9-6 Silver Cup Victory.

The Argos had taken a 7-6 lead when Holden B converted a Justin L touchdown earlier in the second half. The Bills led 6-0 at the end of the first half courtesy of a Tony B 30 yard touchdown run. The convert attempt was no good.

Following the game, Bills winning head Coach Mr. Russell was asked what it felt like to finally win the Silver Cup. His direct quote was “With a tear in my eye, this is the greatest moment of my life. When you walk around campus and tell everyone that your team is number one, the only way you can be number one is to be the Silver Cup Champion. So remember kids, diamonds are forever and so is Mr. Russell. WOOOO.

While disappointed with the loss, Argo’s Coach Ottewell was gracious in defeat. “We were close to getting the three-peat but give credit to the Bills for not quitting and they were deserving of the victory. I am quite proud of the way my players handled the loss. Coach Breuls and I will spend Thanksgiving weekend looking at the game video and we will begin making plans for the 2011 season.”

After the game, the Silver Cup Competition Committee announced the individual awards from the game. Anthony B of the Bills was voted the offensive player of the game and Jillian M of the Argos was voted defensive player of the game. Jeff P, T.J. G and Dan K were recognized for their Special Teams play and Jill H and Kevin M were voted best sideline dancers.

game BBQ, Tony Fraser for acting as the Post game party D.J., Mr. Zinger for helping with the Play by Play, The Silver Cup Choir and Ms. Wark and the WRMS Rockers.

Finally a big thank you to the fans and staff that came out and made the 2010 Silver Cup the best ever. Mr. Huner would be proud to know that his football tradition continues here at the WRMS.
