Can we say Three-peat? Last night in the Otterdome in front of a capacity crowd, The Red Hot Flames captured the Cheevers Cup in dramatic fashion with a 3-2 win over the Tiddleywinks to win the Wilkes Hall Major League Hockey Championship for the third year in a row.
The Cheevers Cup is named after retired Senior Residence Counsellor Brian Cheevers.
Tony F's controversial goal with under three minutes to play proved to be the difference in the game. After video evidence proved that the goal was not offside, the Flames relied on some outstanding goaltending by Holden B to hold on to the victory. It was Tony’s third goal of the game. Tiddleywinks goals were scored by Justin L and Anthony B.
Members of the winning Flames team were: Holden B, Darren M, Jessica K, Adrianno Fa, Brooke P and Tony F.
It was a double victory for the Flames as their shoot-out players won the shoot-out division of the league as well. Congratulations to Stephanie M, Caroline B, Brad Fr, Jamie K and Jeff P.
