Grade 10's Visit the ROM

On Tuesday May 31, 2011 the grade ten history classes from WRMS went to Toronto for a tour of the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM). We were given an accessible tour. This was the first time the Rom had given one of these. We got a tour of some of the galleries and got to go into a class room and touch some artifacts.

Here are some of the student’s reactions to the day.

James: I liked the hands on lesson. Because we got to touch actual things from WW1 and WW2 plus stuff from before and after all the wars.

Justin: What I liked about the ROM was the dinos because I found them great and learned new things about them.

Anthony: my favorite time at the ROM was seeing the beautiful amethyst and crystals. I liked that part the most because you get to touch a 4.5 billion year old meteor and you got to see beautiful crystals and minerals.

Kellie: What I most liked about the ROM was the accessible tour because I got the chance to see things closer and touch some of the artifacts. I also got the chance to learn more about different things for example : the mummy in the white coffin that was a singer in the temple of Amun-Rha and the rhino in the animal exhibit that was actually from the Toronto zoo. We also learned that gymnasium in Greek means naked training centre.

T.J: My favourite part of the ROM was in the after noon when we did class room stuff because I got to see stuff that was really used in the war and what the soldiers did when they were board besides drink, fight and gambol.

Robert: My favorite part of the ROM trip was the classroom part. I enjoyed being able to have a hands on experience. The person who was helping had a lot of information, so we could ask him any question.
The dinosaurs and rocks and minerals exhibits also had lots of stuff to touch.

Darren: My favourite part of the trip was the meteorite the was the age of the earth. This fascinated me because I never thought we actually knew how old the world was. The (Canadas first persons) section was very cool. This was my second favourite part except for the stuffed animals. This was really cool because you could touch and feel some of the creatures. I was taken aback by the fact that one part of the building cost close to $350 000 000.

Zeeshan: The most thing I like was the wagons that used in World War 1, dinosaurs and Egypt history and all different kind of special stones. Everything were very interesting and all new for me. I was very surprised when I saw things in the museum. I really love everything there. Very cool.

  1. Very interested to hear about your trip to the ROM. Did you get to check out the 'Water' exhibit? And did you know that you can borrow the tactile Water booklet that was produced for this exhibit, from CNIB Library?
Also, 'water' is the theme of this year's TD Summer Reading Club through the CNIB Library! If you are 16 or younger, call the Library to get your free Kit!
