On Wed. November 30, the Rick Hansen Cross Canada tour made its way through Brantford. Many events were planned by the city of Brantford to celebrate the 25th. Anniversary of Rick Hansen’s Man in Motion Tour
There was a strong WRMS involvement as the tour made its way through the City. One of our cross country team members Kelly M. was selected to be part of the relay team and had the honour of carrying the Rick Hansen Medal through downtown Brantford as the medal made its way to the Gretzky Centre for the opening ceremonies. Kelly had Mr. Kellam act as his guide as he proudly ran with the medal.
Thanks to Ms. Vickers and the gang from Brant Place who were among the many people downtown to cheer on Kelly and Mr. Kellam.
The WRMS choir performed “O Canada” as part of the opening ceremonies at the Wayne Gretzky Centre. After the Brantford Blast Senior A hockey team played a game of sledge hockey against the Brantford Crush the action shifted to North Park Collegiate where in front of a standing room only crowd our School Goalball Team hosted a Goalball tournament involving teams from the Brantford City Council, the Branford Galaxy Soccer Team and the Brantford Red Sox Senior Inter-county Baseball Team. Members of the School Goalball team were Sarah H., Eric M., George Q, Nathan L., Kyle B., Arvin C., and Jill H.
Ms. McMillan and Ms. MacPhee were the referees and a special thank you to Mr. Mannen and Mr. Breuls for coaching and organizing the Goalball demonstration.
The Rick Hansen Tour left Brantford on Thursday as the medal makes it way across Canada.
