The Wilkes Hall indoor Soccer league concluded in early December with Team Adidas defeating A.C. Milan 6-4 in the gold medal game.
In the bronze medal game, shootout goals by Rhianna G. and Big Douglas C. proved to be the difference as the Flyers held on to beat Team Fireworks by a score of 2-1. Fireworks captain, Julia F. scored the lone goal for her team. The three stars of the Game were Rhianna G., T.J. and Julia F.
The gold medal game featured A.C. Milan against the highest scoring team during the regular season, Team Adidas. In the end, Team Adidas managed to win the Bill Gall Trophy with a well deserved 6-4 victory over Team Adidas. Balanced scoring was the key to victory for Team Adidas. Captain Eric M. and Mike F. had 2 goals each and
James R. and Ayrin B. added singles. Scoring for A.C. Millan were team captain
Adriano F. with 3 goals and Dan K. adding a single.
After the game, A.C. Milan Captain Adriano F. was heard saying how proud he was of the effort his team had made to get to the finals and he was quick to give credit to Team Adidas goaltender Nicholas P. “Nicholas was the difference in the game. We had enough chances to score, but Nicholas came up with the big save time after time.”
Team Adidas co-captain James R. called last nights victory one of the greatest sports moments in his career. “Before the game, we talked about how important it was to stay focussed on the task ahead and not to become overwhelmed by the occasion. The players on our team went out tonight, stuck to our game plan and we were able to walk away at the end of the game as Champions.”
League Co-commissioners Ms. Ottewell and Mr. Breuls were happy not only with the high level of play throughout the season but also with the number of participants. This year we had 4 teams and over 40 soccer players play in the league. They also wanted to thank the Run For Light committee for sponsoring the league and buying new jerseys for the teams.
