Ryan C - Elementary
Nominated by: Deborah Cooper SSC,
Unit 4, David A Neill Residence
In our unit,
after supper we have a "quiet time" for students to work on
homework. When Ryan has no homework he
has on several occasions gathered any interested students (who also have no
homework) in his room. He works with his
peers to create short presentations or plays which they then present to the
staff. Each one of these
"plays" have been on character development traits such as teamwork
and not interrupting people when they are talking. Ryan has lead this endeavor with no prompting
from staff. Ryan is very inclusive and
highly praises each of his peers who participate. We have been very impressed
with Ryan's initiative in leading his peers in this creative manner.
Courtney
P – Deafblind
Nominated by: Kathy
Vincer, Jodie Goyit, Rob Renton
Courtney P is an exceptional person in the Deafblind
School Program. Her cheery and expressive personality brings smiles to everyone
she works with or meets. Courtney has taken on the
responsibility of joining the W. Ross Recyclers again this year and she has shown
an excellent work ethic every time she collects the recyclables in her area of
the school. She is a hard worker and keeps at it till all the papers have been collected. She
asks for help whenever she needs it but Courtney is a very independent worker
and likes to do it herself whenever she can.
She always has a cheery smile and a wave to the people in each classroom
she visits to collect the papers and cardboard. Courtney is an inspiration to others
with her perseverance and her happy personality - way to go, Courtney!
Phillip Dafoe - Secondary
Nominated by: Jeff Kellam, Charles Alfano, Therese
Stewart, Donna Kings, Clint Huffman, Mandy
Berardi
Philip is a great addition to the
Student Body here at WRMS. He is
respectful to all the staff and his peers and he is responsible for completing
his residence routines independently. Staff rarely speak to him regarding his
own personal care, homework etc., and he is always available to help his peers
and when staff make a request of him he is always responds positively. He is very good with our low functioning
students and readily available to help or assist staff at any time. He has had
to persevere through a lot of unkind treatment in his past and he is able to
look past all of this and become a great person. As well, because of his past
unkind treatment he is more aware of others and their feelings and is
respectful of all of this.
In only his first weeks in the secondary school,
Philip has been an exemplary student and role model. He always displays the utmost respect for
staff and peers, and is always willing to share his expertise and support his
classmates. Philip is an excellent addition to the WRMS community.
I am very proud of Phillip an am so glad he is fitting in quite well at WRMS. Thank you to everyone for making him feel welcome!
