WRMS Poetry: "Onyx"

You came to me when times were hard 

I was lost, alone, struggling to cope with the pain I held deep inside 

you were my light in my darkened world 

Holding your harness tight in my hand as we walk side by side down busy streets 

I never want to let go 

you pull me gently out of the way of each obstacle we have to face 

you listen to me as I cry, occasionally licking the tears from my eyes 

your tail wags reminding me how beautiful life can be

each morning your excitement greets me, ready to start a new day 

it has been a hard first year, you had destraction issues, which led your work to go down

and I was in and out of the hospital, but that wasn’t your fault 

you tried to show me just how beautiful I was, in your own way

I knew you didn’t want to loose me, even if I wanted to loose myself

and we worked through it together, just like a team should

Now I’m feeling better, loving life, even if some days the saddness is to much to handle 

I know you’ll be my sunshine at times when I need it the most, and for that I’m grateful 

I know when times are tough all I have to do is put my hand on your soft black fur

and remember that yes someone cares

I know you’ll guide me through each storm we must go through 

our journey through life together has only really just begun 

they said I’d never make it and they were right I was never going to make it

we were going to make it 

someday they’ll regret althose insults they through at me 

I know we’ll make it to the top with you by my side guiding me gently up the stairs of life

step by step we’ll get there, then it will be our turn to shine
