Lie. Cheat. Save the world. A fairly tall order unless you are author Wesley King, writing a novel about 5 teens abducted by a group of super villians called The Vindico. And while the world of villians and heroes seems to be black and white, Wesley says he likes to think of both sides as falling somewhere in the gray middle.
WRMS students, along with students from Lansdowne-Costain Public School and James Hillier Public School, had the privilege of meeting Wesley King at an author visit in the auditorium on Wednesday afternoon. Wesley talked about his hopes for becoming an astronaut and a Jedi and how those dreams changed into a desire to write. After turning down Disney and being rejected by 8 other publishers, Wesley's book was published by Penguin. With plans for 5 more books in the series and book 2, The Feros, due out in June, Wesley's future as an author will be interesting to watch.
Six students had the opportunity to talk with Wesley King during lunch and swapped opinions on everything from manga to Harry Potter. Students from all 3 schools gave Wesley some suggestions on their favourite authors and books and asked many questions about writing and publishing. After his visit, Wesley said that "it was an absolute privilege to visit the school and particularly to meet those wonderful students during lunch. Please pass along to them how much I enjoyed their company."
Please see Kate in the library if you would like to read a copy of The Vindico, available in large print, print, and alphabetic braille.
