Another Race Reflection

Yesterday, at Brant County's, I had to run a 5.1k race. My guide runner was Mr. Huffman. It was very cold out, the coolness in the air made me feel a bit of nervousnes and now I was unsure if I would be able to run the race as fast I hoped to. Coming to the start line, I wished my fellow teammates good luck and got in position to start the race. But, there was one thing missing... my guide runner, he wasn't ready. Once the start gun was fired, I decided what I wanted my goals to be, which were to run the whole race without stopping and to keep up with my teammate. Half-way through the race, almost done the 2nd small loop I past my teammate and I felt nervous again that she would try and pass me. Later on in the race, I was still ahead of my teammate but still nervous that she would past me on the 2nd big hill. When I reached the 1st hill I peaked over my shoulder to see whereabouts my teammate was but she was far enough away that I knew that I would be able to get up the hill without her passing me. But, when we got to the 2nd hill she was starting to catch up to me so I put all I had into running up the hill to ensure that she would not pass me. Getting close to the finish, I picked up the pace a little to ensure my teammate would not finish the race before I did. After the race, I was very tired but proud that I improved my personal record by 5:20 minutes. I am looking forward to CWOSSA next week and I am setting the same reasonable goals that I had for this race.
