Run for Light Update

We are less than 2 weeks away from the 26th. Annual Run for Light. For all of the new staff and students here at the WRMS. Run for Light is the main fundraiser here at the school in which all of the profits are used to support the Run for Light Training Centre located upstairs in the Gym. Along with the staff and students at the school, this is a facility that supports the training of National and International visually impaired athletes. Many of these athletes represented Canada at the recently completed Paralympic games in London, England. What is run for light? It is a 3 k walk or 5 k fun run that is open to the public which takes place at night. All participants receive a light stick and a t-shirt or a bandanna. The evening kicks off at 5:30 p.m. Entertainment includes face painting, a karate demonstration, live entertainment and entertainment supplied by a disc jockey. Hamburgs, French fries and pop are available before and after the run. Draw tickets will also be on sale. Prizes include athletic wear and collectables. Tickets will be sold for $ 1.00. The run itself will take place at approximately 8:15.

Registration fees for the run are $ 5.00 or $ 10.00. A $ 5.00 registration gets you a souvenir bandanna and $ 10.00 gets you a t-shirt. The date of this year’s Run For Light is Thursday Sept. 27. It is a great evening of fun so bring your family and friends and be prepared to light up the night.

This will also be the second year that our school will host the Run For Light Cross Country High School challenge. This meet will take place at noon hour on the same day as Run For Light. High School Teams from across Brant County will compete in midget, junior and senior Boys and girls races on the school grounds starting at noon. Show some school spirit and get out and cheer your favourite Otter as they compete against runners from the other schools in the city.
