Work Experience: Logan Peres

Hi, my name is Logan Peres.  This term I have been at Cedarland Public School in a grade 3-4 class.

What do you do at your placement?
I’ve been working with Miss Money helping with math work in the classroom.  Once a week I get to participate in their gym class and it is really fun.  I forgot how active kids that age are.  They are so full of energy.  I had no idea that I could work with kids like that. The kids seem to learn something new each day which is cool to watch.  I try to force them to think because I know that they know what they are doing so I encourage them to do their own work.

What have you learned about yourself?
I’ve learned that I can be a good role model if I try.  I’ve learned that I enjoy helping younger people more than people my own age.

What is the biggest lesson that you have learned so far?
Trying to set the best example possible because the kids look up to you, so you have to be the best version of yourself because they are ALWAYS watching you.

Would you do this placement again?
In a heartbeat I would! The month that I have been at this placement I think I have had the most fun I have had in a long time.

Has this helped you decide on a possible future career?
Yes it has. I always knew that I liked working with and helping people.  This has just made it that much more clear that this is something that I want to do.

Silver Cup 2013-2014

Yesterday's  Silver Cup Classic was a game that sports fans will be talking about for years. Despite being down 14-7 at  the half, the Jets came back to score 20 unanswered points to go on and defeat the Bills by a score of  27-14. It was the first Silver Cup Championship for the Jets Franchise.

Emma R. scored 2 touchdown to lead the Jets.” Touchdown Tony Brown” and Ryan C. each  scored a touchdown for the Jets. Tony Brown also added 3 converts.

Justin L.  was a scoring machine for the Bills scoring both of their touchdowns and adding two  converts.

Jet ’s coach Charles Alfano described winning the Cup ”as one of the greatest moments in his life. He  was quick to add that it was a total team effort by the Jets and he was proud of all of his players.”

Bills coach Mr. Russell was gracious in defeat telling me that his players did the best they could but that  in the end they came up a little short to a great team. Coach Russell said that his coaching staff would  take a couple of weeks off to reflect on the game, but that they planned on holding mini free agent  camps in Neill Residence to look at future talent.

Wilkes Hall Football Commissioner  Mr. Ferras would like to thank everyone involved for making this  year’s Cup the best ever. He asked me to thank all of the residence staff who helped to coach both the  football players and cheerleaders, for volunteering to officiate, the Nerd Herd along with Mr. Rondeau  for setting up the music, Mr. Zinger for his doing the play by play in tilt. annour am booth, all of the  staff and students who made the great banners supporting their favourite team, the kitchen staff for a  great post game BBQ,the grounds crew for setting up the field and the students  for taking part by either  playing, cheerleading or coming out and having a great time at the game. Finally thanks to all of the staff  who showed their support by coming out and cheering the players on. The kids really appreciate your  support.

Watch

Some thoughts about character as we start a new school year.  Thanks Mr. Kolesar for sharing.

Watch
By Frank Outlaw

Watch your thoughts…
As they turn in to Words.
Watch your words…
As they turn in to actions.
Watch your actions…
As they turn into habits.
Watch your actions…
As they turn into habits.
Watch your habits…
As this becomes your character.
Watch your character…
As this turns into your destiny.

Algoma University Student Profile: Tyler Harris

Algoma University has a feature story on former WRMS student Tyler Harris.  Tyler talks about why she chose Algoma and how it will help her achieve her goals for the future.

“Everyone is so friendly here.  Everyone has tried to help me in some way – it is so nice!” she says with a smile.  “I’ve looked at other universities and they are not more appealing.  When I’ve visited other schools, people don’t smile or even talk to you.  This is the place.  I like the sense of community here.  Everyone talks to you here, they don’t ignore you. I know I belong here, and will fit in.”
